Wood Furniture Terminology
Attached Pillow Back Sofa has pillows that are stuffed and then sewn to the inside back. Pillows cannot be turned. Barrel Chair is a smaller scale chair with a back that swivels. Back is concave in the shape of a barrel. Bergere is an upholstered armchair with exposed wood frame, low seat back, large loose cushion and wide seat. Camelback Sofa has a curving seat back which forms an upward curve in the middle, and then slopes down and slightly up on the sides. Chesterfield is a sofa with heavy, deep buttoned upholstery and no exposed wood. Club Chair is a modern name for the wing chair. Loose Pillow Back Sofa have the same number of back and seat cushions. Back cushions are usually reversible. Multi Pillow Back Sofa has more back cushions than seat cushions. Back pillows are arranged randomly for varying comfort levels. Occasional Chair is a smaller scale chair with frame exposed. Tight Back Sofa have no back pillows on seat backs, and provide firm support. Also called Channel Back and Tufted. Wing Chair is a high back armchair with upholstered panels that project forward from the sides and back, and resemble wings. - Back - |
